Dandelion Effect

For sometime within NDP circles I’ve warned against thinking the Liberals are going to disappear. It’s not going to happen.

Why? I call it “dandelion effect”.

Liberals are like dandelions - everybody has them, once you think you are rid of them - they spring back to life, and a lot of people will hold their nose and eat them if need be.

I mean, we’ve all been served dandelion leaves in a salad at one point thought simultaneously: “Gosh, I’m so sophisticated for eating this exotic green,” and “Dear god, why am I eating a bitter foul tasting weed!”

See, just like voting Liberal for a lot of Canadians.

All of this to say, whenever I wonder about the future of the Liberals, I can’t help but ask why more Liberal staffers don’t join the NDP instead of the public service? My pet theory: deep seated hope that one day the pendulum swings back and they get to reclaim their power-positions.

Just a hunch.
